Audio Systems: No wire harness for my stereo, power antenna, car harness

Question
sorry, what I meant by a connector is just a small 30 cent piece to crimp two wires together, and one end I can slide into the ports on the back of the CD player. I just don't know what each port is for. If there was a way to tell what just one of them was, maybe constant power or the ground, I would know if my theory was correct. Let me know if there are any other options, otherwise I guess I'll just wire it and see what happens. Otherwise, I have a 35 dollar paper wieght.

Question -
unfortunately that's my problem, I have the car harness, but not the one for the stereo. I contacted Sanyo and they informed me that the part can only be replaced if it is under warranty, which it is not. I was told there may be universal ones that fit, but no stores around me carried them; Radioshack, best buy, electronic super store... I looked online, but found nothing. I did find general wire connectors that fit in the ports in the back of the stereo, I just need to know which port is what (ground, constant power...). Go figure, a large part of the wire diagram on the back is peeled off, so I just have a list of the wires, but not where they connect to the 12 ports. The ports are arranged in two rows of 6, so if I knew the pattern the wires are pluged in as compared to the list I have, I think I could rig it. From what I can tell, the top of the list (front left speaker +) coincides to the top RIGHT port, and as I read down the list, it works backward, alternating top and bottom port, ending with the power antenna in the bottom left port. I would go ahead and test it out, but I'm worried if it's wired wrong, I could permanently ruin the stereo connecting ability in my car. I'm not as worried about breaking the radio since it is pretty useless to me right now as it is. I realize this is kind of an odd question and I hope I explained it clearly, but I'm not sure what else I can do. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jon

Question -
I recently purchased a Sanyo ecd-t8579 cd player (at a yard sale) that did not come with a factory wire harness. I've tried to find a replacement in local stores and online to no avail. I think I can hot wire it, but I don't know what each port in the player connects to. not sure what to do. Any info on finding a replacement or how to determine where each wire goes would be a big help.

Thanks, Jon

Answer -
wiring harnesses are not sold for the radios they are sold for the cars.  In other words you can't get a harness for a sanyo..... or an alpine..... or a kenwood cd...... you get a harness for a chevy...... or a ford....... or a honda....

if you purchased a cd player without a wiring harness for it you will have a very difficult time trying to get one.  If this is what you are doing I can try to help you but basically you will have to contact sanyo for the part.

So you got a connector that fit the radio?  If so the wire colors usualy are pretty standard.

2 green, brown, white, gray, or purple sets are usually the speakers.
The ground is almost always black
The memory/power wire is usually yellow but Ive seen pink
The power wire to turn the system on is usually red.

in 99.9% of the cases you cannot damage the car, the car is fused so that cant happen,  worst case scenario you blow a fuse and have to replace it.  the radio however will most likely blow and never work again if you connect it up wrong.

Answer
If you just start hooking it up randomly you have about a 5% chance of getting it to work and a 95% chance of blowing it.

Option #1 contact manufac.  didn't work out
Option #2 find one on ebay (same model) hopefully that someone is listing for parts, its broken, or they are listing it "as is" this way it will be dirt cheap, then just use the plug
Option #3 again with ebay try to find a broken one that is as close to your model as possible.  if it doesnt work you've only wasted another 5-10 bucks
Option $4  If the unit has a fuse in the back (small blade fuse)  write me back,  I can probably figure it out from this.
Option $5 take it apart and look at the traces on the board.  The power ones should be fatter than the other 8 speaker wire traces.  you can use a meter to find which one is ground, the other 2 fat ones should be power.  If they are all the same thickness, 8 of them should go in one basic direction (towards the amplifier chip usually a big black chip with many wires and the chip is mounted to a heat sink)  these are the speaker wires so use process of elimination to single out the remaining wires.  Using a meter can tell you what they are and I can help with that.
Option #7 sell it on ebay and use the money to help buy one that has everything.
Good luck!
