Audio Systems: bose system, kicker subs, nissan pathfinder

Question
I have a bose system in my Nissan Pathfinder and I am not having any luck installing my 12inch kicker subs in the rear. I was told that I may have to strip my vehicle of all bose systems and start from scratch.  Is that true? If so I will never buy premiom audio package again. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
No, it is not true.  You may have to  get an engineer or technician who knows how to tap off the audio to feed the subs, though.

First, I must know if the kicker is self powered or not.  If self powered you must have an audio output line going from the headend unit to the input on the sub amp.

If the sub is NOT selfpowered, you must have a separate sub amplifier to drive it.  And the sub amp must have audio from the output on the headend unit to the Sub amp input.

You may also need some crossover network in it - depending on the kicker you are using and whether our not the headend unit has a sub with switchable output (for 60, 100 or 120 Hz outputs to the sub).

So, let me know what you got going and I can give you more specific instructions.

PS:  Kickers are good, so don't trade it in; you just have to learn how to get all the supporting amps and connections going.
