Audio Systems: car stereo wiring, car stereo wiring, volt power supply

Question
I have a 12 volt power supply and a car stereo which I want to wire up in my house. The diagram on top of the unit shows the speaker wire connections and the antenna wire but nothing else. The remaining wire colors are red, black and a pink wire with some kind of boxed transformer made on it. I connected the speaker wires as noted and the red and black wires to the power supply respectively. I got nothing and the radio worked when it was removed from the vehicle. Is there something else I should be doing?

Answer
black should be ground.  red should be the posative wire that turns it on.  Usually the main power wire is yellow but the "box" you're talking about is probably a fuse.  you can probably open it up and see a 10 amp or so fuse inside.  if so just connect this to the postative as well and it should fire up.  It might also be a ferrite core.  a ferrite core is a loop that keeps hum and stuff out of power wires so again it sugests it's the main power wire.
Good luck!
