Audio Systems: CD player installation trouble Kia Spectra, 2002 kia spectra, kia spectra

Question
My boyfriend and I were installing a cd player into my 2002 Kia Spectra last night when I accidentally crossed a red and black wire.  The interior lights, radio, blinkers and dash dimmer went off.  We tried all the fuses and they seem to work.  Then we connected the red and yellow wires on the radio together and everything seemed to go back to normal.  We decided to just take out the radio for now and replace the dashboard.  As of now, everything works when the car is on but the headlights and interior lights won't work unless the car is on.  How can I fix this and hopefully install a cd player?

Answer
Well pretty much the only thing this can be is a fuse.  When you connected the yellow to the red you "backfed" power into the system.  they yellow is always connected to the battery weather the car is on or not so connecting it to the red fet power to everything else that was connected to the red even though the fuse was blown (a diagram would be nessesary to explain it in more detail)
ANWYAY!  most cars have 2 fuse blocks, one under the hood and one inside the car.  The one inside is usually up under the area between the pedals and the steering wheel. or in a simlar spot on the other side under the glove compartment.  someimes they are in the area that gets closed up when the doors are closed.  these are typically now the very small blade fuses, you have to inspect them very closely to see the break inside,  sometimes you get lucky and they look blackened inside and its easy to tell.  There's usually a little white puller tool in there that you can pluck them out with, just make sure you get them all back in the same spots.  its unlikely but I guess possible that you blew one of the fuses up under the hood so check there as well.  these usually are fuses for starting the car and the headlights and stuff like that. my mercedes has them all under the hood so you never know.
Definatly disconnect that yellow from the red though cuz it has the potential to drain your battery that way.
GOOD LUCK!
