Audio Systems: 1997 honda speaker wiring, bad hair day, power amp

Question
The front right speaker of my 1997 Honda Civic has not been functioning...period.  I've tried switching the speakers, and have found that it is not the speaker itself that is damaged, rather I have suspicions that the wiring may be faulty.  What is the best way to go about this? I'd rather not have to bring it to a dealership and pay a fortune for something I may be able to do myself. Thanks

Answer
How did you switch the speakers?  Did you remove them from the door panels and rotate them OR did you switch the speaker wires coming out of the back of the unit?

IF: you physically moved the speakers from one door to the other and the result was the same then,  that does show the speakers are both working.

IF: you switch the wiring at the output of the unit and the result is the same it means there is a wiring problem (open circuit on the right wire somewhere).

IF: you switch the wiring at the output and the left side becomes dead the trouble is in the power amp of the radio unit and will need servicing or repair.

Try that and let me know what comes next if you need help.

PS: To switch wiring at the back of the amp you must study the connectors; in some cases, you have to clip the speaker wires and switch them by resoldering them together and back.  Be sure to cover over any wire switching you do with good tape to avoid future short down conditions; or you will have a real bad hair day.
