Audio Systems: need more power, gain problem, electronic units

Question

Hey its brad again i have one more ? i just got some speakers and they are 800 watt but i feel they are not putting out enough sound some people say i need an amp but what is an amp and what does it do and what do i need to install one

Please help me out

The amplifier produces the voltage and current to drive the loudspeakers.  The bigger the output of the amplifier (in watts) the stronger the electrical signal to your speakers.

But, it can also be a gain problem rather than an amplifier problem.  Do you get distortion when the volume is turned to its very maximum?  If not, you need more gain, also.

You can find out which amplifier is good for your car by checking with www.crutchfield.com and doing the search.

If you give vehicle make/year and the make/model of your speakers and electronic units I can give you more specific advice rather than the general comments above.
