Question
my alternator died in my cavalier 97, the battery was disconnected, and repaired, once the car was fixed, my stereo will not work properly. i have 2 12s and an amp hooked up with a jensen MP6211 cd player. it shows all the things as usual and says it is playing, the equilizer is even going as if it were playin gbut there is NO SOUND from the interior speakers or the box... i checked my regular car fuse to the stereo and dont know what else to check!!!

Answer
You must check the amplifier that is powering the two speakers.

Easy way is to 1) check to make sure the power wires got hooked back up when the alternator was repaired and the battery was replaced (it is customary to disconnect the audio system while such work is going on at the shop).  If you have a vom (Walmart has them for $9) you can check for 12 volts at the power input.

Then, 2)if the battery wires are properly connected, then make sure the amplifier is getting signal from the head end.  You can check that by feeding the output cable into a walkman or portable player that has an audio input.

Then, 3) check to see if there is output from the amp.  Do this by making certain the wiring from the amp is getting to the speakers. You can do this with a small vom/ohhmeter or by running a wire direct from the amp to a speaker by bypassing the internal harnass.....

If it sounds daunting let me know and I can give you more guidance.

Good luck,
