Audio Systems: Non-Working System, fuse boxes, intelligent reply

Question
I have a 1993 J30 Infiniti, bought it at an auction, when they drove it through the lane, the stereo was working fine (according to my husband.) Although I never heard it play, it wouldn't receive a CD, and I never heard any sound. I was hoping you could help me out, fuses are okay, what do I do next, sure hate to buy another system.

Answer
It probably hasn't worked for a while.  Usually audio systems in cars this old are ready to retire unless they have been revitalized.

It is a swell car and worth getting the audio going.

Here is what I need to know before I can give you an intelligent reply:

Which system does it now have in it?  (there are two different systems that came with the J30 in those days; and, is it an original unit or an aftermarket brand - such as Pioneer or Panasonic, etc.)

Does the radio work?  AM?  FM?  Or nothing is working?

When you say no sound -  Does that mean nothing at all?  Does the light come on in the display?  Do you hear any kind of bloop or thump when it is turned on?

If it is totally dead - no sign of life whatsoever it is likely a fuse in the car that is gone. How did you determine the fuse was okey?  Do you know where to find the fuse boxes?  There are two of them; one under the hood and one inside under the dash near the steering column.  You must check both of them.

Let me know further.

PS: IF this is the original radio that came with the car I would strongly urge you to consider just replacing it - the age makes it over 13 years and that is sort of End Of Life for todays electronic systems.
