Audio Systems: loud static coming from speakers, bench test, sony receiver

I have a Sony Receiver #str-se501. The other night during a storm the electricity went out and suddenly came back on. The receiver came on and the sound from the speakers was very loud. When we tried to turn it we found that the sound level was already down to 1. We unpluged it and left it unpluged overnight, but when we pluged it back in and turned it on we still had the same problem. Is there anything we can do to fix this?

Dear Rita,

Sounds like you had a power surge when the power came back on. Rare, but it happens. Since there's no telling what a power surge can do in any given instance, I suggest you take the receiver in to a qualified repair service for a bench test.
