Question
Hi, i have a honda 1994 and i put a 1000 watt amp on it.  I have to to a 1200 watt box(sub)...  I have had it installed for about 8 months with no problems wut so ever.  Lately I have been having problems with my car.  At times it wont start and will make me alarm go retarted. I would have to jump start it all the time.... Two days ago it just died on me.  I would pass current to the battery but nothing! the guy told me it was the alternator.... My dad keeps telling me its because of my system... could it of messed up my alternator? is there anything i can do to set it up with out it taking all da juice from my battery and alternator?

Answer
It is almost for certain that your car does not have a heavy duty alternator in it - unless you have had on installed.

The amps you have have put a heavy load on the system and chances are the alternator windings have burned out or the diodes are gone; thus the battery is not getting charged.

So, the answer is: Yes, the heavy duty amps are overloading the system and wiping out the alternator and/or maybe the voltage regulating system in the car.

You should either install a heavy duty alternator and battery or keep the volume down so as not to put such a heavy load on your car electrical system.
