Audio Systems: Power Acoustik amp, orion subs, power acoustik amp

Question
Hi, I currently have two Orion 10" subs.  These are the ones that I have http://www.cardomain.com/item/ORI27301
This is the amp that I am thinking of getting  http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7150.html
do you think that this would be a good match.  I know that if you under power a subwoofer you can break your amp.  I also know that if you feed your subs to much power the subs will break.  Do you think that amp would work well with two of the Orion subs, and not break?
Thanks.

Answer

I do not think you are going after any SPL records with a pair of nice 10's and an amp, so I will answer accordingly.

At a glance of the specs given...  No, I would not use that amp.
You do not see anything about the current demands of the amplifier listed anywhere. This is very important information to anyone that is serious about properly providing adequate power to that amp (class D  or not).
Only a one year warranty is given (quite notable, when you consider it is over 500.00 + tax).
There are no reviews listed.
Class D amps are not long-life, Professional grade amplifiers, imho.
Ect..ect  ect.

I would get a Hifonics 900 watt Zeus or something of that caliber to run those.
You are only losing a few DB since (as I see it) with that Power Acoustic they would supposedly be getting about 1650 watts each [with both 10's wired at 1 ohm and wired together in parallel for a 2 ohm load of 3300 watts at the amp].
The Zeus is an amp that (properly set up) will blow your mind and last a lifetime.
HiFonics Power ratings are true RMS. They have much more power than they say on the covers. I would say the Zeus has about 2500 watts of output stage power, if memory serves. This dynamic 'overhead' allows it to be much more musical at all volumes.

"I know that if you under power a subwoofer you can break your amp"
To that I say, yes, but you can make you nails bleed if you cut them off too short, too.

*If you underpower subwoofers, it will not damage anything [unless misused by forcing the amp into clipping]. You should never force any amp to its' clipping point, period. It will NOT give you even .001 more decibels.
Problem solved :)

I ran my 18's at 1/4 RMS.. or 250 watts each. The systems' 17 drivers would make ppl mad from the freeway, sounded like Carnegy Hall, and was pretty much bulletproof by anyones' standards of mobile audio. I did not have humongous 4kw Class D amps, but I had very heavy Class A ones allowing me to dust many systems having over 2kw, with only 465 watts in mine.
The easiest and best way to get loud is with more speakers, not more power.

There are many ideas about which class amplifier is best for what, and with so little information given about your exact  intentions, I will presume that you are not that into it at this stage.

I hope this helps.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
