Audio Systems: cd stereo installation, twisted pair wire, honda website

Question
okay, i have a 95' honda civic. And im trying to install a cd player. When i took out the original cassette player, we realized we couldnt find a wire that had constant voltage coming from the battery, so we took some wire hooked it up to the battery and strung it through the dash to be hooked up to the cd player. it works good. then we figured out the accessory voltage wire wasnt working because the radio fuse was burnt out so we replaced it. It turns on and off fine. Then we got a diagram from the honda website of the speakers color coded wires and hooked the speakers up, but they arent making any sound what so ever. We have tried re-doing them more than once and we cant figure out why they arent playing sound. Do you know what could be wrong?

Answer
EIther the amp is dead OR the wiring is not right.

You can check it easy (nothing is really easy when it comes to car installations) by taking a run of few feet of twisted pair wire or zip cord and connect one of the amp outputs to a raw speaker. Then check each amp one by one.

My suspicion is you do not have the speaker wires connected properly.  You can check for continuity from the output to each speaker by using a cheap (low cost) vom ohmmeter.  YOu can purchase one at Radio Shack, Walmart and such places for under $10.

Make sure everything is fused. The battery wire you ran to the cd player should have a fuse port in the line to protect it in case of shorts occuring along the way.

Also, go to http://www.installdr.com/  where you can find lots of pictorals and diagrams for your car - that my help immensely.

Lots of luck,

PS: BTW, the color codes are sometimes out of date and confusing, so I have found you cannot always trust published wiring/color charts. I always check them out with a meter to be sure!  Because: If you make the mistake of all mistakes and end up wiring the output of an amp channel into a dead short it can make for a very bad day.
