Audio Systems: stock chevy s10 radio/cassette 1994, chevy s10, stock chevy

Only the left side speakers play. The right side will not play but with a good bump or tap on dash they will work for a few seconds. I have had the adio out and the connections on the back seem solid. I took out the top right dash speaker and it was goos also. the cassette will play only the left side also. I have noticed taht When in fm mode I don't get the stereo light any more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Mike

well it sounds like a loose connection or something inside the unit going bad.  Since you may eventually be looking at just replacing the unit with a new one I would diagnose the problem by doing the following:
(this isnt easy if you havn't any electrical experience but if you do and aren't afraid of getting in there it shouldnt be too bad)  In short you are going to switch the left speakers over to the right output and the right speakers over to the left output.  if the problem switches sides then the problem is in the radio and I would suggest replaing it with a non factory unit like alpine or something you like.  if the problem remains on the same side then its a wireing problem somewhere in the car and I can help you with that.
If you want detailed instructions on how to switch the speakers let me know but if you dont have a meter or dont want to cut and splice wires then let me know that too.
