Audio Systems: Fisher Integrated Stereo Amplifier CA-270 Doesnt put out any sound, fisher ca, fisher stereo

Question
I have a Fisher Stereo Amplifier CA-270 that is not putting out any sound.  When ever i had first hooked it up for the first time (it was my dads before) it played on both right and left speakers for a while and then the right side of speakers didn't work i checked my speakers and it wasn't them so i was like oh no big deal i still have my left speakers. Well recently i was listening to music and all of the sudden the left side of the speakers went out as well and i couldn't hear anything from them.  Do you have any idea what the problem is? I know it isn't the speakers because they work fine with other things.

Answer
Dear Levi,

The Fisher CA-270 was notorious for single channel failure and eventually two channel failure. The problem was variously with output transistors, bias potentiometers, poorly soldered joins--all stuff you need to have a pro look at and fix. Given its age, I suggest you do this.

However, since it's so old, unless it has "classic" value, I'd think about simply replacing it. There's a chance here that the repair will cost more than the unit's worth. You'll pay $50-75 for a diagnostic, but that can be applied to the final cost of the repair. If the total repair cost exceeds $200, IMHO you should think about a replacement.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
