Audio Systems: Aftermarket radio on 2001 Suburban, power antenna, antenna wire

Question
I had just recently installed an aftermarket radio in my truck. Here is the catch, the sounds seems to work intermittently.  This seems to be true if I don't power off the radio before shutting down the vehicle.  I had read somewhere in the manual that I needed to hook up the power antenna wire (blue/white) to the power antenna or amp if available.  For now I had left the wire covered by itself in the harness.  The truck does not have a power antenna.  Is this wire the source?  I desperately need help, hate to drive a vehicle without tunes in it.

Answer

Boun,
That remote lead would not have any bearing on the performance (as long as the end of the remote lead is not shorting out.. even then it would probably only damage the remote lead circuitry, meaning it would not send the voltage down it that is expected when powering addons).
As long as you do not have an amp or power antenna, the remote lead should be taped off or crimp a belcap onto its' end.

As to the intermittent operation:
I would suggest running the ground wire for the deck directly to bare metal on the vehicle chassis, first.
You can probably find a factory bolt or nut to affix it to.

Then re-check your connections for 12v and memory. They may not be securely attached which would easily cause this.

This regime should deal with any problems with the install that may be causing this.

If it still does this after doing all of this, it may be; bad speakers/shorted speaker wires, a bad deck (rare in a new unit) or the vehicles' grounds.

Sincerely,
J Mael
