Audio Systems: Hooking up a stereo to a TV, s video output, antenna input

Question
Yes i have a Panasonic Cd stereo system model number SA-AK66 and id like to hook it to my 1995 magnavox 27" tv model number 7p2782 902. The steroe system has surround sound and is a 5 speaker system. I tried running a cable from audio out on the tv to the AUX input on the steroe but nothing will play. The stereo also has  input for 6 channel descrete input with plug is for front, center, subwoofer, surround, and surround out. The tv has an S video output also. IS there anyway i can join these to together so i can have surround sound?Ive tried going threw a vcr first and using the vcr audio outputs to the steroe but that doesnt seem to work either. Do i have to buy a reciever or some kind of adapter for all of this to work or am i just wasting my time?Thank you for your time

Answer
Dear Chris,

If you have a VCR, the connection is pretty simple. First, connect the incoming TV signal (antenna, cable, satellite) coaxial cable to the ANTENNA IN on the VCR. Connect the ANTENNA OUT, again using a coaxial cable, on the VCR to the antenna input on the TV. Second, connect the AUDIO OUT on the VCR to any available input on the Panasonic unit (Panasonic recommends the AUX input). When you want to listen to the TV through your stereo, turn the VCR on as well, and set your stereo to AUX. You may have to fiddle with the VCR's channels--some will only allow audio throughput on Channels 3 or 4; others will require you to change the VCR's channel to match that being sent to the TV, say, Channel 55 on your cable system.

BTW, the S-video connection on your TV is an input.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!
