Audio Systems: reconnecting entertainment system, jvc cd player, model cs

Question
Kevin,
We recently moved our Entertainment Center to a different room in the house. I reconnected the Cable, TV, Stereo, CD & DVD player. Everything worked, except there is no picture for the DVD player, only audio. I want to find out the best way to reconnect all of these components;

Cable TV in from wall outlet
JVC Receiver RX-815VTN(circa 1980's)
JVC CD Player XL-F215TN/XL-F115TN(circa 1980's)
Maganox VCR Model #VR1260AT01(circa 1980's)
Mitsubishi Color TV Model #CS-26EX1(circa 1980's)
Panasonic DVD/CD Player Model #DVD-RV32/DVD-RV27/DVD-RV22(2003 or 2004)

Should I run the Cable through the TV or VCR? There isn't a way to run it through the Receiver.

Thanks for your help & suggestions. I know this should be easy, but can be confusing.

Answer
Dear Bruce,

“How to connect everything…” is one of those inquiries that one can quite literally write a small book about or at lease a series of magazine articles. Since this has been done much more comprehensively and eloquently than I can manage, I'm going to direct you to a web site, www.soundandvisionmag.com, which maintains a series of such articles which in turn cover virtually every conceivable connection option. Once you're at the site, click on “Archives”. On the archives page about half way down you'll see a series of “Back to Basics” articles. If you can't find what you need there, write back, and I'll be happy to handle individual circumstances.

Specific to your inquiry:

Your VCR should have an ANTENNA IN and ANTENNA OUT coaxial jacks on the rear panel. Connect the incoming Cable TV coaxial cable to the ANTENNA IN and connect the ANTENNA OUT to the TV. If you want to run your video through the receiver, tho' this isn't necessary since you've already made the video connection via the Cable TV cable, you can connect the VIDEO OUT on the VCR to any VIDEO IN on your receiver.

The DVD player's VIDEO OUT (either composite or S-video) can be connected to the appropriate VIDEO IN on your TV, which I recommend, or through a pair of VIDEO IN and VIDEO OUT jacks on your receiver. Be sure to connect the same video in and out VIDEO1, VIDEO2, etc.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
