Audio Systems: trying to record from TV into VCR in a Sony DVD/VCR player, video cassette recorder, sony dvd vcr

Question
Hi,
i have got Sony SLV-D950 DVD and Video Cassette Recorder. I am trying to record a program from my TV channel into my Video Recorder but i am not able to do it. it just ends up with a blank screen or with some white lines. but i can play my videos and dvds in it. i have got a Philips TV. i also have a digital television connection from Telewest. i would like to record my favourite program from that. i have been given a digital box along with the digital TV connection. do i have to connect the digital box to the Sony player or will the normal connection work?  there are also 3 options from my recorder- line1, line2, line3 and PR1. i do not know what this is. please kindly let me know how i can record program from my Digital TV to my Video Cassette through a Video Recorder. pls let me know step by step. Thanks for your help.

cheers
Rose

Answer
Dear Rose,

I'm not familiar with the Cable TV connection options in the UK, especially since you have a digital TV service with a cable box. I'm in the US. I recommend first that you contact Telewest and have one of their technicians help you with the connections. Some digital connections are not compatible with VCRs, so I'd feel more comfortable if you contacted them first.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
