Audio Systems: Ford Taurus, ford taurus gl, wheel drive vehicles

Question
alright, I have a 96' Ford Taurus GL and I was just wondering if I were to purchase a cd player for the dash where I could take it to have it installed with adaptor dash too... Also what's better for a Taurus a cd changer in the trunk or a cd player?

Answer

For installations, my experience says to try Circuit City. They are competent, they stand behind their work, and are fair priced.
You could look for a local custom installation shop, which may be more exspensive, but I could not help you select one from the other. Mobile audio installers are similar to automotive mechanics, in that finding a good/fair one is tough and people usualy stick with the same one once they find a good one.

Generally (in front wheel drive vehicles like the Taurus), CD changers can be more stable and skip less than most entry level CD players.
This is not to say that a good In-Dash CD player will not work well, but it is likely that a properly installed changer will provide better performance when negotiating bumps and potholes. Of course, changers are more cumbersome to load and unload.
I prefer CD-R players that support MP3, myself. Then I can burn my own custom CD's with up to 256 MP3 tunes per CD.
I drive carefully, forget about changers (their extra cost and generally cumbersome user access), and live with the occasional skip of the In-Dash.

I hope this is useful information.

Sincerely,
J. Mael
