Audio Systems: JVC Head unit, jvc kd, reset button

Question
I own a JVC kd lh-305 which is last years model, and it just stopped reading cd's all together the other day, i insert a cd and it just ejects it straight back out, is there a way that i could reset the head unit or do you have any idea why this may be happening, thanks alot ;)

Answer

Your manual should specify if there is a reset button on it or not. Most likely, there is a small recessed one on it (check behind the removable face, if it has one of those).
Depress it for at least five seconds, fire the deck up, and hope it resolves the problem. If it does not, you will need a replacement. :(

As to why it may have died:
It is possible you purchased what is called 'B Stock' (remanufactured returns, which are sold at prices that are below MSRP). This could be why it went bad so early. It is also entirely possible that a brand new one can break within a month. A tech would need to see it in person to be more specific.

Lasers can go bad pretty easily (and far too often), and since they are cheaper to replace than to repair, my best advice is to buy the cheapest CD/MP3 deck you can stand (if you replace this one). This may sound like a shrewed thing to do, but todays decks are all pretty good.
You can get a pretty great 200 watt, MP3/CD-R deck for under $90-120.00.
With repair labor costing that much alone (easily), plus parts, there is no reason to spend 200-400 on a used deck that might fail the very next day.

I hope this helps you in some way.
