Audio Systems: SETUP, lifestyle 12, lifestyle system

Question
Kevin,

I have a Bose Lifestyle System 12 (AM/FM RADIO, CD PLAYER, SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM).  i JUST PURCHASED A SONY TV HDTV (60") WITH ADELPHIA CABLE, DIGITAL AND HD CHANNELS.  HOW SHOULD I SET UP THE BOSE SYSTEM? CURRENTLY I HAVE WIRES FROM THE AUDIO OUTPUT OF THE TV TO THE VIDEO OPTION OF THE BOSE SYSTEM.  THE SOUND IS NOT THAT GREAT.WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

Answer
Dear Dan,

Usually I suggest that you connect the incoming cable to the ANTENNA IN on the rear panel of the VCR or DVD player, and connect the ANTENNA OUT of the VCR or DVD player to the ANTENNA IN on the TV. That way when you want to watch a DVD (or VHS tape), you just put it in the player, and the signal interrupts the incoming satellite siganl. The Lifestyle 12 manual assumes that you're connecting the incoming cable signal through a VCR or perhaps a DVD player. (If you purchased the system used, you can find an owner's manual on line. Go to www.bose.com, left click on "Product Support" and then left click on "Owner's Guides".) You connect the audio output (analog for a VCR; digital for a DVD player) to the "Media Center" (a high falutin' term for a receiver) so you can listen to your TV (or VHS tapes or movies) through your audio system.

BTW, most TVs are horribly underpowered if using them to feed an audio system. That's why you need to connect the cable signal through the Media Center to get a proper signal and volume.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
