Audio Systems: connect a dvd/sourround sound direct for audio from tv, antenna cable, tv broadcasts

Question
i just bought a durabrand dvd sourround sound combo but i am having trouble trying to get the sourround sound to get a direct connection to the tv so the sourround sound can only toss the audio from the tv how do i connect all of this to make it function?

Answer
Dear Rodrigo,

Without having specific model numbers for both the Durabrand component(s) and the TV, I'll have to hazard a guess. If the guess is wrong, write back with the specific information, and I'll try again.

Read the manual.

If this system connects like 99% of them, you have to connect everything through the receiver, which in this case is a receiver/DVD player combination unit. Generally, depending on how you get your TV signal (antenna, cable, or satellite), you only have to connect the incoming signal to the ANTENNA IN on the rear panel of the receiver, and connect the ANTENNA OUT of the receiver to the ANTENNA IN on the TV. It's that simple. The signal feed carries the audio for the TV; the built-in connections on the receiver carry the audio from the DVD player to the surround sound speakers.

If your receiver/DVD player does not have ANTENNA IN/OUT connections. You get the sound and image to your TV by connecting the A/V cable (yellow, red, and white) from the "AUDIO/VIDEO OUT" on the receiver to the "AUDIO/VIDEO IN" on the TV. Yellow = video; Red = audio right channel; White = audio left channel.

If you want to listen to TV broadcasts through the system's speakers, you have to connect the AUDIO OUT (Red and White again) from the TV to any AUDIO IN on the rear panel of the receiver. One warning, however. Unless your TV is relatively new, its audio output power is going to be very, very small, which is enough to power the speakers on the TV, but not enough to provide a good signal to the receiver. You may have to turn the volume up quite a bit. Be careful when you switch back to play a DVD. Make sure the volume isn't too high.

Hope this helps. Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!
