loads CD but dosent know it's in there ,

i heard lazer needs realigning ?
Is there a sensor to tell it there is a cd in it ?

Thanks Dennis

Answer
Dear Dennis,

There are generally four reasons a CD player won't recognize a CD: (1) the laser is out of alignment; (2) the transport belt is out of adjustment; (3) the CD is corrupt (rare) or copy-protected (rare but becoming more common); or (4) you're trying to play a CD ripped from a computer, which some players won't recognize--tho' this is a DVD player, and DVD players will usually play anything from a ripped CD to a cheese sandwich.

If your unit is refusing to play *any* CD, not just ones with issues (i.e., (3) and (4) above), then you need to take the unit in to a qualified technician to have it fixed. Don't try to do this yourself. Lasers are dangerous in the hands of the unqualified.

BTW, have the repair service price the repair estimate before you commit the unit. Could be that the cost of the repair will be equal to or greater than the cost of replacing the unit. DVD players are cheap. Consider replacement as an option.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
