Audio Systems: speaker replacement, polk audio speakers, chevy silverado

Question
I have a 2005 chevy silverado crew cab. I would like to replace the stock speakers with better aftermarket ones , but I want to keep the factory radio/cd player because i have steering wheel controls that operate it. I don't want an amp or anything fancy like that , just clean crisp sound with a regular amount off bass . the stock speakers are so bad. will the factory head unit power the new speakers sufficiently or am i wasteing my time and money ? thank you

Answer
As long as you choose efficient speakers, you should be fine, Gary.
I would suggest going to the nearest mobile audio shop that sells Polk Audio speakers. These are accurate, rugged and very efficient speakers (meaning they will work very very well with the factory decks' moderate power) which should last the life of the vehicle. They will look like they grew there and will sound astounding. The component separate models are not cheap, but they also offer more reasonable replacement-type coaxials and 2-way plates which will blow away the stock speakers (and pretty much anything else you stack up against them in the audition room or in the vehicle, $ for $).
*This is presuming you have no optional hotrod factory system with dedicated amps. Even if you do, the speakers should be replacable and the 1st place to check is your local Polk Authorised Dealer/installer for more specifics about your '05 Chevy.
