Audio Systems: 1995 ford escort radio issue, radio frequency range, 1995 ford escort

Question
Hello, and thanks for any help you can provide me.  I have a 1995 Ford Escort and the radio has never really worked since I have owned it.  Basically on FM\AM when you push Scan to pickup stations, it just cycles through the whole radio frequency range without ever stopping on a station.  I can manually tune to a station and it will pick it up just fine.  Do I need a new stereo deck, or antenna?  Are these things difficult to replace for someone that doesn't know much about this stuff?  Thanks again.

Answer
Though it sounds as if the antenna has come loose or is bad,  in my professional opinion, any factory deck that old needs replaced.
Antenna is not too hard to check out if you can reach behind the unit. It should be securely plugged into the back of the radio itself, or into a short wire coming off of the back.
This is where you could also plug in a new one (to test) before going through an antenna replacement just to see if it works better. ;)
These things 'can' be difficult to accomplish , though they usualy are not. I have no idea of your skills [with tools or your hands].

You can get a new deck (such as AM/FM/MP3/CD/CD-r/CD-RW, new wiring adaptor and mounting kit for under 100.00 (no cutting factory wires and it looks great in the dash). Up to 256 tunes on one cd.
Good luck.
