Audio Systems: 96 neon radio problem, plymouth neon, neon radio

Question
I have a 1996 Plymouth Neon with a OEM casette player.  Over a 2-day period, the power would be intermittent (it went fron no display, no sound to perfectly normal) then it stopped working altogether.  I got two chrysler radios from a junkyard.  When I put one in it worked perfectly, then the same thing happened.  Then I tried the third radio - same thing.  Now when I put any of them back in they do not work.  When I turn the car lights on the radio face lights up (but no display), and I noticed that I can play and rewind the tape (with no sound, but I can hear it operating).  Also, it seems like after I put each new radio in everything would work fine, then the radio would not work after the car sat in the sun.  This is really puzzling me, it's like the car is frying radios, but I never blow any fuses.  And it never quit when I was listening to it.  I would get in and start the car and see that there was no clock.  When the radios were intermittent they did retain the station memory and the time had lost several hours.  I would appreciate any help.  Thanks, Dan.

Answer
Dan,

this sounds like a problem with your main harness for your sound system, since it has affected several different units, i would recommend getting a schematic and start tracing down the wires that feed the radio's, now this can get fairly involved when tracing down harness problems so you might be better off to take it to a shop if you want, there is another way to cure the problem which is run all new wires i would recommend doing this with an aftermarket head unit instead of OEM so you dont have to really hack into the old harness but you can simply run new leds from the battery, ground and your 12volt ignition fuse then simply run new wires to all your speakers .. this will completly eliminate the old harness and you will have all fresh new wiring... hope this helps you out

thanks
