Audio Systems: Radio code isnt recognised, radio code, ford dealer

Question
Dear Gary

I have a Ford Escort (British) and the battery recently went flat. Now the radio/CD player doesn't work. I have to put a code in. I have a code (it was written inside the audio manual when i bought the car). However, I follow the instructions and I get a message saying... "wait 30". The radio counts down 30 minutes (which takes ages when you are sitting there waiting for it to pass!!). Then it simply asks me to enter the code again. Can you advise me? I have up to 10 attempts before it prevents further code entries and I'm already up to number 6 (and getting very frustrated). Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that the code written inside the audio book is wrong, if so what can i do?
Thanks
Gary

Answer
you're going to have to contact your local ford dealer and tell them the code in your book doesn't work (probably due to slightly different model prefixes or slight design change) and see if they can give you correct code. you will have to provide vehicle registration with vin number in order for them to help you. sorry for the headache, but that's all the anti-theft circuitry is good for.
