Audio Systems: Location of 1991 Dodge Caravan amplifier, dodge caravan, customer service line

Question
I found a post with the same problem that I have:

http://experts.about.com/q/835/3819803.htm

I have a 1991 Dodge Caravan with the Infinity 6-speaker system. When a speaker cuts out, I have to turn the volume way up until the sound "punches through", then turn the volume back down. The fellow above was going to try to fix it himself. I don't now if I'll try unless you figure it's worth a shot. So, where might I find the amplifier location, and what should I replace it with?

I have to admit that I even replaced the Infinity deck itself with one I found on eBay. The problem persists. I had no idea that the amplifier is separate!

Thanks.

Answer
Rick,

the repair described in the reply is fairly indepth which would include some very FINE soldiering stuff that i wont even touch but your TV repair guy would feel at home... i would suggest simply replacing the amp with one maybe from a junk yard , ebay ect.. to get the location of the amp there are a few things you can try , one is a search on google or other good search engine, the other is calling dodge's customer service line and asking them which usually works pretty good.. the other which is a definant is buying a haynes repair manual for your van around 12 bucks from your local auto parts store they are worth their weight in gold, it will give you the location of the amp, and even a wiring schematic so incase you dont find a direct replacement you will have the wires sorted out for an aftermarket install... hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
