Audio Systems: amp install., speaker wire, rms

Question
I have an aftermarket headunit. I want to hook an amp to power the speakers in the car.  The speakers are already hooked up to the stock wiring from the headunit. Do i disconnect the wiring to the speaker and run wires to the speakers from the amp, or can i combine the stock speaker wire and the wires from the amp.

Answer
Jon,

You will use the RCA preouts on the back of your head unit to provide the sound to your new amp, then simply disconnect the speakers you wish to run with the amp from the head units harness tape and secure all unused wires, then run your wires to the amp, now as a tip its not normally recommended to use an aftermarket amp to power OEM speakers because they arent really made to handle alot of RMS wattage, so i hope you have a good set of aftermarket speakers to couple with the amp.. hope this helps you out if you need anything else just let me know..

Thanks
