Audio Systems: Sound output, stereo amplifier, modern tv

Question
Hi Garry,

I will make this detailed but brief.
I tried to connect my T.V. to my Technics
home stereo amplifier and made a mistake with the speaker wires causing a short (small electrical spark). As a result I blew the sound output module, and power supply on T.V. (repaired $250 dollars later). However recently found out that I also blew the left sound output channel on my amplifier. Here are the specs:

Technics SD-S1300 aprox. 7 year old model
I have two sound output terminals marked
"A" and "B" - both have right and left (+)and(-)
capable of connecting 2 sets of speakers.
Not quite sure why it happened this way but
I seem to have blown both "left" channels on "A"
and "B" while the "right" channels still work.

I am some what handy with electronics & repairs.
I was wandering what to look for and if I could do the repair myself?

Thanks
Rick

Answer
you can never hook up newer tv speaker lines to stereos. you probably damaged the input side of stereo to the tune of it will be cheaper to replace it. try using line outs from vcr or cable box next time and you'll have no problem. modern tv's do not use transformers, and when you hooked up the supposed 'ground', you inadvertantly placed around 75 volts ac to your stereo. that's why it blew....
