Audio Systems: Stereo cuts out, protection circuits, dear lou

Question
Help !

I have a Sherwood 4103 AM FM stereo receiver, I have owned it for three weeks. Today I installed new speakers by disconnecting the wires from the old speakers and using the same wires for the new ones. Now the system will only work for 5 seconds and then it clicks off as if  it is being shorted out. I have tried using the stereo many times  and it keeps shutting down. I even hooked up the old speakers and it still shuts off after only 5 seconds. Prior to my installing the new speakers the system worked perfectly, now I can not even use the old speakers without the stereo shutting down. If you have any suggestions I would be thankful.

Best Regards

Lou

Answer
Dear Lou,

Easy answer: It's under warranty! Take it back and have it serviced/replaced for nothing.

Harder answer: What kind of speakers are you running? Did you turn the unit on with the volume very high? If so, you may have tripped the thermal protection circuits, which are not resetting. They have to be reset by the factory, so you still have to take the unit back.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
