Audio Systems: Car Stereo, rca cables, 12vdc source

Question
Hi,
I have recently bought a in-dash deck for my 95 Neon . I hooked up the deck and it has power but there is no sound. Now all the wires are connected as well as the input cable's for the amplifier and subs.
I dont know why there is no sound coming out, before it was working fine.
If you can help please do.
Thank You, Ved

Answer

Ved,

This is a very good reason to benchtest used gear before re-installing it.
Provided all of the wiring is correct [remote lead, grounds, power wire, RCA cables, and speaker wires] and you know how to operate the system, the only thing left that could be the problem is a component failure.

Now that it is installed:
Check to see if the amps'power and protection LED's are illuminated.
If the power LED is lit, hook up a different (known, working) speaker to the amps' outputs. This will tell whether or not the problem is in the sub(s).
If the Power LED is NOT lit, check the remote leads' fuse from the new deck.
Always use a fuse on the remote lead to prevent damage to the remotes' power supply from possible short circuit!
If the Remote lead is not working, you will have to fuse and route 'Switched 12vdc' to the amps' remote input before the amp will power up.
*You can temporarily hook a fused 12vdc source to the amps' remote input to test and watch the power LED to see if the amp will turn on when it's told to.

There are a few things to check.
I am hoping this helps but since you have not given a lot of specifics about it all, this would be some good starting points for troubleshooting,

Best of luck.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
