Audio Systems: engine noise, ground loop isolator, 8 ways

Question
I have a 88 Honda Accord . I installed a new radio, amp and speakers. My question is why am I getting engine noise out of my speakers? And what can I do about it?

Answer

Engine noise can enter a system about 8 ways.. I will not go into them all here.

The most common issue is a poor ground somewhere in the system.
You might try a 'line level ground loop isolator' if you cannot find any obvious ground problems. These work very well in many cases and are about 15.00.
