Audio Systems: Purchasing television best brand?, sound and vision magazine, crt tube

Question
Need to purchase 32" or so television.  We have cable, dvd, home theatre speakers.   Which are the best brands with price as consideration.   I had heard that RCA was the worst...we just had one die on us too.    Is it true that playing games on a tv can destroy the color?   Our kids have an older tv with games on it and you cant adjust the colors.  Thanks.

Answer
Dear Peggy,

"Best" brand is one of those very loaded questions that has no answer. I suggest consulting two sources which conduct side-by-side comparisons of both brands and technologies. You *do* know that you have a wealth of technologies to choose from: convention CRT tube, digital light processing (DLP), plasma, and liquid crystal diode (LCD). The sources would be "Sound and Vision" magazine (www.soundandvisionmag.com) and "Consumer Reports" magazine. CR's last comprehensive TV review was March 2005. Your local library is sure to have a copy.

Once you've decided on a technology (even if that's an issue), then it's time to start looking at brands and models. CR believes, BTW, that traditional CRTs still deliver the best picture quality.

As a general rule, I'd stay away from brands I'd never heard of, no matter how good the price.

And, no, I've never heard that playing games on a TV destroys the color. A TV is simply a signal producer. It doesn't care if it's a game or a TV program. Besides, all sets have color adjustment mechanisms; so, if it gets out of whack, you can realign it.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
