Audio Systems: Amplifier Location, jeep cherokee, insulation board

Question
Hello Tom,

I have a 94 Jeep Cherokee 4wd.  I recently tore out the entire interior first to replace the rusted floor pans.  Once I got it all apart I decided to sound proof the car with Dynamat and then upgrade the entire stereo system.  I'm not sure if you're familiar with this vehicle but it is the "boxy" shaped Cherokee, not the Grand Cherokee.  There isn't alot of room in the vehicle despite it being a SUV.  I have a 12" Polk Sub in the rear area that is removable.  My struggle is finding a place to put the amp.  This may be a dumb question but could I mount it on the ceiling of the vehicle?  I have the entire interior torn out and thought I could mount it to the roof supports.  I didn't know if I could do this or not.  Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
Dallas,
Amps don't like to be hot and installing the amp on the ceiling of the vehicle will cause the amp to run hotter than normal since the sun will heat the roof of the vehicle. However, You may be able to install the amp here if you use some kind of a hard foam foil backed insulation board between the roof and the amp. I have seen some custom installations that had the amps on the ceiling installed inside custom built wood boxes.
