Audio Systems: Car stereo, renault megane, long periods

Question
I have a 1996 renault megane RN with a phillips in built stereo. The stereo keeps turning itself on when the engine is turned off, even after being left for long periods. The stereo can then either stay on, until manually turned off or sometimes turns itself on and off. Any ideas as to why this is happening or how it can be resolved?

It could be the unit itself after 9 years.
IF that was a factory installed radio.. you had better take it to a shop and get it attended to.

If it was aftermarket, a simple system rewire may be all that is needed.
