Audio Systems: Alarm Installation, 2005 nissan pathfinder, new 2005 nissan pathfinder

Question
Hello Tom;

Thanks for taking time to help others.

I purchased a new, 2005 Nissan Pathfinder this weekend.  I paid the dealer $500 to outsource the installation of a remote start and an overhead DVD.  Whoever he got to do the work fell short w/ the remote start :(

It is a system called Valet which is by Direct, the same company that does Viper alarms.

It locks the doors but, won't unlock them.

It starts the truck via remote but, not using the key - only turns it over.

The remote program is all screwed up, the installer used custom programs rather than the factory defaults.

My question for you is, can I fix any of this myself?  Why not take it back to the dealer?  That would be the obvious solution but, it's a 6 hour round trip ( I got a great deal not buying local).

I'd appreciate any suggestions you could offer.  Thanks!

Answer
Derik,
To even start troubleshoot the problems that you mentioned you will need the install manual to see how the alarm is connected to your vehicle. As far as the door locks, the problem could be due to the connection to the alarm module that activates the door lock solenoids to unlock the locks. With the install manual/s you should be able to reprogram the alarm to the default settings.
