Audio Systems: 99 Ford Escort Aftermarket Removal, removable face plate, rear defroster

Question
It's a Pioneer DEH-P9200R head unit mounted in an aftermarket panel to replace the stock radio/heater controls as they're all in that one big console mount. I tried talking to them, but quite frankly they're holding their cards on how they installed it and are telling me some real stupid stuff about how 'we'll remove it as per the agreement when we installed it but we don't give instructions on how to do it'. Obviously I don't want them to uninstall the whole thing. As for the panel, visually it's a flat black plastic panel with the 3 knobs for climate controls, a push button for the rear defroster and then the standard looking cutout for a DIN head unit with 4 holds next to it which go in to spring loaded clips, as expected. Every after market panel designed to hold a standard DIN head unit looks 99% like this one. Does this help any?

I've got a '99 Ford Escort and when I had Best Buy install a new head unit they had to, as expected, remove that bulky stock unit and place in an adapter plate that held the head unit and the rear defrost button as well as the 3 heat dials. Fairly common for these cars as I understand. The problem now is I want to access the auxillary input on the head unit and I noticed it has the 4 DIN holes around it, however my DIN tools won't remove it, nor will they even click into place. Is there any sort of screws behind this plate I need to remove to get the whole mess out or is it more likely the spring retainer clips are jammed for some reason?

Josh,
Your best bet is call the service/install people at BestBuy and ask how to remove the stereo. Without knowing what kind of stereo they installed I couldn't begin to tell you how to remove the stereo.

Answer
Josh,
If this stereo has a removable face plate you can remove or pull down the face plate and on both sides of the area where the face plate fits into you should see two small slots. These slots are for the flat unlock tools that will release the stereo from the sleeve.
