Audio Systems: 1993 Dodge Intrepid, infinity system, dodge intrepid

Bought a 93 Intrepid used but in excellant condition.  One day the clock on the stereo just faded away before my eyes.  The stereo will not play on FM and will not accept a cassette.  It does get power because you get the thump noise from the speakers when you do turn it on and you get either tons of static or sometimes nothing at all, just dead.  When you do get the static it is on the AM band only and will weakly scan from one end of the dial to the other and start over again but will not stay on any station.  Also, the lights come on to the equalizer buttons but none of the buttons on the front of the panel work.  It is a factory installed Infinity system.  We have checked the main fuse and it is ok but do not know where to go next.  

Help, my 14 year old daughter is driving me crazy because the car has no tunes!!!!!!!

The problem is due to a faulty part inside the stereo itself. If you give me the complete model number of the stereo after you pull it out of the dash, I will look over the service info to what I can come up with for a possible cause.
