Hi tom i have a 1989 325i bmw the engine noise has been driving me insane for a while now, i have tried many things, like noise filters, rewiring the head unit, amp, electic cross over, moving the wires around even the ground. ground and power wires are 4 gauge.i even disconnected the rca's and the noise is still there.i even checked and repaired all wire that i would think would cause the noise."nothing".
Can you help figure out this PROBLEM.

THANK YOU NELSON
Answer -
Nelson,
Please give me more details on the kind of noise, is it a popping noise that increases with engine speed or a whine that goes up and down with engine speed? Every noise problem can be solved!

it's a whine noise when the engine speed changes.

Answer
Nelson,
The whine noise is due to a defective alternator. Installing a heavy duty alternator filter on the output of the alternator should eliminate the whine noise in your sound system. The filter should be rated at the max amperage output of the alternator. You should also seperate the RCA wires for the audio input to the amp as far away as possible to any wires that carry 12 volts in the vehicle. You can sometimes do this by running the RCA cables right down the center of the vehicle, under the carpet.
