I have a Delco AM/FM/Cassette in my 1995 Chevrolet Truck.  It is the base AM/FM/Cassette for 1995 and newer full size pickups.  When the temperature is below ~50 degrees F, the cassette player cycles back and forth from forward to reverse (without a cassette in it).  The only way to stop this cycling is to put a cassette in it and play it until the temperature warms up, or to turn the radio off until the temperature warms up.  Any thoughts as to what this problem may be and how much it may cost to fix?  I can get a replacement OEM AM/FM/Cassette for ~$100, and do not want to spend a lot of $'s fixing a 10 year old radio.  (I took the radio apart looking for something obvious and noticed that the drive band did not seem to be very tight, but I do not know how tight it should be or if this could have anything to do with the problem.)  Any thoughts or comments you have are appreciated.

David,
it's possible that the tape/radio switch may be sticking. If you pull the stereo out of the dash and give me the complete model number I will look over the service info for the stereo for clues to the cause of the problem.

Answer
David,
I looked over the service manual and if the tape radio switch is very dirty or if it has any corrosion inside the tape deck may come on without a tape inside. A close up inspection of the tape player mechanics should turn up the cause of the problem.
