Audio Systems: pontiac sunfire instrument cluster, 2002 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire

Question
I was installing a stereo system in my girlfriend's 2002 pontiac sunfire when I noticed the abs, emergengy brake, service, and trac off lights were all illuminated after the car was started. At this point of the installation I had only spliced one wire for the remote wire and hooked up the power wire to the battery. All fuses inside the car are good as well as underneath the hood. I can only speculate that I may have shorted something with my test light, however there were no sparks or abnormal activity.I went back and checked all of my connections they're all good.I noticed this before I hooked up any components(subs, amp). I disconected both battery cables to try to reset the system, but they(the lights) remain illuminated.

Answer
Check the cars' 'fusable links' as well. These are not always real easy to locate but generally WILL come from the battery, so start there, looking for an inline plastic device [slightly larger than the wire]. It (they) should have 12V on both sides (probed at the wire, on each side).

Out of town for a couple of days.. sorry I did not respond sooner!

While I do not know that cars' wiring, logicical troubleshooting would start with some isolation, namely, the spliced wire.
Unhook the remote connection. If the lights go out.. there ya have it (and will need to deal with that as it occurs) and you will have isolated the problem. If you do this and they do not go out, you will need someone more fluent in that particular vehicle, though you might try reseting the cars' CPU once the remote is not connected.
I must also point out that ANY probing of wires in a vehicle with ABS is dangerous and can kill people!
If you need more specific help on that vehicle wiring, this expert may be able to help (though repairs are his forté).
