Audio Systems: Sony HD wont connect to home theater system, pulse code modulation, sony lcd tv

Question
My recently purchased Sony KFD-55WF655 does not seem to want to send it's audio signal through to my Yamaha HTR-5440 amplifier/reciever.  I have followed the manual instruction using monster cables and I even purchased a fiber optical cable and connected it according to the instructions and still no audio out.  I have extended warranty on TV, but I don't know if it's a TV problem or an operator problem.  Do you know of a quick check I can do that will help determine what the problem is.  By the way, the audio on the TV works fine and the amplifer works fine with my DVD player.  Can you help me?

Answer
Dear Steve,

P. 49 of the user's manual offers a diagram for connecting the audio to a receiver. Have you done what this diagram calls for? It also has a notation that the "Audio Out" jacks only work when the TV's internal speakers are set to "Off". Have you done this? I assume that the same rule would apply to the optical digital output as well.

Everthing else on the set's rear panel seems to be an input.

Have you selected the correct line-level input on the receiver? Make sure you haven't accidentally engaged the "MUTE" button. If you're using the digital optical output, make sure that the input on the receiver is assigned "PCM" (pulse code modulation) unless the receiver automatically defaults to the signal it receives (most do). You should check your receiver's manual to be sure.

All I've done is read your manual. If it's still not functioning after you've double checked all your connections, then you may have to contact Sony's tech support on their web site www.sonystyle.com

The Sony LCD TV is an impressive piece of equipment. I hope otherwise it's working well for you.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
