Audio Systems: Bose CD error, auto salvage yard, bose speakers

Question
I have a 96 nissan Maxima with a Bose stereo. My CD play is not working and displays a CD error. How can I repair this error?  It's almost like a CD is still in the unit..the CD display light stays on.  I have been told that I can replace the stereo with a used bose stereo from another 96 Maxima..which is hard to find or buy a new radio with a cd player (another brand name) and have it installed with a Bose adapter to connect with my Bose speakers. Can that be done? Will the Bose speaker sound be the same? Can I just add a cd changer to my existing Bose stereo?..I have a cd changer button on my existing Bose stereo. Will a FM-module cd changer work? Please advise.

Answer
Jessie,
First off, you will need the have the CD that is stuck inside the stereo removed before the stereo will work correctly. If this stereo is a CD changer/controller you could pick up a CD changer at an auto salvage yard and connect it to your existing stereo by plugging it into the jack on the rear of the stereo. You could install an aftermarket stereo if you purchase the correct adapters to interface the new stereo to the bose external amp. An RF type changer should also work ok.
