Audio Systems: Van radio, dash board, radio cd

Question
We bought a 2001 Dodge GrandCaravan SE in October 04. Had Low mileage--everything is great. I am aware now that there was a recall about the radio and condensation, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Sunny and warm the day this happened. No previous problems of any kind.Got in the other day after shopping and radio/cd player has no power--I thought it was probably just a fuse, but I get home and check and the fuse is fine. THere is absolutley no power. No clock--nothing, it is dead. Nothing else is wrong, all dash board items and lights and heater work. Can you tell me what might be the problem before I wind up taking it into the dealer and have to pay and arm & leg to fix it? Is it something I can fix? Where do I even start to look for the cause of the problem? Anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated. THanks

Answer
Jenn,
The stereo will have two 12 volt supply lines to it, one for clock memory and one for main power. You will need the wiring diagram to locate the two supply lines for the stereo. Using a 12 volt test lamp with the key on test for 12 volts on both power feeds. If the stereo has the two 12 volt feeds to it, the stereo will need to be serviced.
