Dear Tom.

I have a 1995 Toyota Avalon XLS with a factory installed Am/Fm ETR radio/cassette player with a dealer installed Fujitsu Ten cd player. The CD player, when it is empty,  frequently turns on by itself, and this interrupts the radio or tape whichever is playing. The only way to minimize the interruption from the CD player turning on is to permanently keep it loaded with a disc.

Please advise how to fix this problem.

Thank you for your time.

Answer -
Bala,
The CD player in your vehicle has a fairly common problem. In many cases the load detect opto unit will fail and this will give a false load/CD in signal and the player will automatically turn on. With a CD loaded into the player the load in detect signal is turned off. Check/test/replace the load in detect unit. This switch is a photo transistor located on a small circuit board on top of the CD deck assembly.

Answer
Bala,
If the CD player is mounted below the stereo you will have to pull the two units out together. Once you have them out of the dash the screws holding the two units together will need to be removed from the bracket to seperate the two units.
