Audio Systems: car stereo repair, laser power meter, car stereo repair

Question
Hi, I have a question. I have a Dual brand car stereo model xd 6200. I have had to take it apart and remove the cd player part because it was jammed up, it was like there was a cd in it even though there was not. I could not put a cd in it. I am just wondering if there is a source for the inside cd part if I need to replace it, I would hate to trash the stereo if I do not need to. The cd part inside comes out, the wire bundle unplugs like a ide cable in a computer but much smaller, and it was marked with a name KMC, and stamped with a number, p030717d.
Any info would be greatly apprecaiated.

Answer
it isn't economically feasible to replace the cd drive, as a lot of electronic adjustments with sophisticated equipment (100mhz digital storage o-scope, laser power meter, etc.)are required to focus and align the laser. at a shop, you could expect to pay $200 or more to do that. letting a shop fix unit without replacing drive might set you back $100 or so. also, it would never be as good as it was originally. if unit were mine, no questions asked, i would replace whole unit. sorry that it isn't as simple as it seems, but modern electronics never are. i like to make money on repairs, but if it isn't worthwile to me or my customer, i won't offer it.
