Audio Systems: no sound from speakers, output transistor, sony stereo

Question
Sony stereo ( components are all one piece). Was listening to stereo and sound suddenly went out. You can see where it is picking up the radio stations and listen to the cds turning, but sound has been lost. All connections are secure, and sound went out in both speakers at the same time.

Answer
Dear Lisa,

First, look for replacable fuses, generally on the rear panel, remove them, and see if they're broken. If so, replace them with a fuse of the same value (10, 15, 20 amps, etc.). If there are broken fuses, that should solve the problem.

Other problems are more serious, like a malfunction in the power output section, which feeds the signal to the speakers, of your unit. The malfunction could be as simple as a loose wire or as complicated as a disabled circuit, failed output transistor, or failed transformer. Important: if it's not a fuse, you need to have the unit bench tested by a qualified repair technician.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!
