Audio Systems: 1987 VW Quantum Stereo Problem, vw dealer, fm stereo

The LED display on my 1987 VW Quantum factory cassette am/fm stereo reads  SAF E following my pulling and reinserting the below dash fuse,(the fuse was good). None of the buttons respond to my requests and  there is effectively no sound even at full volume. I checked the fuse at the back of the unit and it is ok. Is there a way to "reset" this fault or have I damaged the unit somehow? (I originally pulled the below dash fuse in an effort to find a totally unrelated power window problem and the stereo was fine prior to this troubleshooting effort.)

Most likely the stereo is in the anti-theft mode. You will need to locate the unlock code, it may be written in the owners book or inside the glove box/console. If you cannot find the code you may have to contact your local VW dealer.
