Audio Systems: Intermittent Error message Pioneer CD, pioneer cd, laser assembly

Question
I have an older Pioneer CD/MULTI-PLAY CD CONTROL CASSETTE RECIEVER EQ, FH-M75.It stared 2 days ago. While playing a CD, it will stop, and display an error message, and I cant even eject the Cd unless I turn the car off, or reset the unit. It does it on Cds that it never had a problem playing. 2 days ago it happened 3 times ON 3 different discs, yesterday once on my way to work, now seems fine. I've tried cleaning the lense (CD type),& new cds the first day,but it didnt seem to help.Today worked perfectly.Do you know what I should do? I have no problem opening the deck to physically clean the lense or whatever you suggest. Thank you in advance for your time. Eric

Answer
Eric,
In most cases one of the sensors that are used for loading and to tell the system controller that a CD is loaded into the play position is failing. In many units I find defective solder connections on the sensors that can cause intermittant problems. The problem could also be due to a border line laser assembly.
